Foiling is a subtle yet beautiful way to enhance your printed swing tags. Foiled swing tags will swing, hang or dangle from your products with a professional look that is sure to attract potential customers.
Here at SwingTags.co.uk, we can add foiling to your swing tags using either digial foiling or hot foil stamping – but what’s the difference? Take a look at our guide below to help determine which is the best option for your printed swing tags…
Digital Foiling
For a lower price tag and faster turnaround times, digital foiling is the way to go. This foiling method just requires a digital artwork file, this tells the digital foil machine where to print the foil onto the paper.
Pros of digital foiling:
Cost-effective (for shorter print runs). For small-quantity orders, digital foiling is the most economical option. Hot foiling is a more expensive process so if you are only ordering a small number of foiled swing tags, then digital foiling is the best option for you!
Speedy production times. Digital foiling offers a faster turnaround time than hot foiling – there is no need to wait for a die block to be assembled. Digital foiling is ideal for last-minute print runs!
Cons of digital foiling:
Requires lamination. For digital foiling to look it’s best it needs a lamimated surface. This isn’t a problem if you were planning on adding lamination anyway but if you are after a more natural apperance, you will need to select either matt or soft-touch lamination.
Limited presentation quality. Digital foiling looks great…but it can’t achieve quite the same level of apperance as hot foil stamping. Digital foiling sits on top of the print surface rather than being debossed into the paper. This means that it doesn’t always catch the light as well as hot foil. The difference is fairly minor so we would still recommend digital foiling for your foiled swing tags.

Hot foil stamping
For top-quality, premium foiled swing tags, hot foil stamping is the best choice for you! This method uses a press that is pre-loaded with a custom-made die, this die plate is headed up and pressed onto the foil and your printed swing tag. Only the areas of foil which come into contact with the die are transferred onto the swing tag,
Hot-foiling involves the assemly of a foiling die, this will incur additional costs. These costs depend on the size of the die required.

The pros of hot foil stamping:
More professional results – For swing tags that have finer details and/or thin text; the hot foiling process is the best option. The stamping process slightly debosses the foiled designs which gives them a slight shimmer under the light.
More economical for longer print runs – For larger print runs, hot-foiling is cost effective and offers a high impact apperance. Once your custom made die has been assembled it will be kept for your next order – the cost only needs to be paid for once!
The cons of hot foil stamping:
Increased production times – The production time to create a custom die block will add production time to your order. If you need your foiled swing tags urgently, you should select digital foiling rather than hot foil stamping.
